Perplexity is hiring a Senior Senior RAG Engineer — retrieval & ranking on the Search & retrieval team (Hybrid · San Francisco, United States). This is a hands-on role in LLM & generative AI—not a generic “AI enthusiast” post.

You will own LLM features, retrieval, agents, and evaluation end to end: problem framing, offline evaluation, safe rollout, and iteration from production signals. Success is measured with clear metrics (quality, latency, cost, or business KPIs)—not slide decks alone.

Perplexity answers the web with cited, real-time search from San Francisco.

Senior RAG Engineer: retrieval quality, ranking, and latency for grounding answers users can trust.

Missions

Improve chunking, embedding, and hybrid retrieval for citation accuracy.
Ship ranking experiments tied to answer usefulness and speed.

Stack & environment

Python, vector DBs, Elasticsearch, LangChain-style retrieval.

What we look for

Search or RAG in production; ranking/IR experience preferred.
