Senior ML Engineer — financial NLP & LLM

Bloomberg is hiring a Senior Senior ML Engineer — financial NLP & LLM on the AI & NLP team (Hybrid · London, United Kingdom). This is a hands-on role in LLM & generative AI—not a generic “AI enthusiast” post.

You will own LLM features, retrieval, agents, and evaluation end to end: problem framing, offline evaluation, safe rollout, and iteration from production signals. Success is measured with clear metrics (quality, latency, cost, or business KPIs)—not slide decks alone.

Bloomberg Terminal and B-PIPE power financial decisions worldwide. London AI teams build NLP, summarisation, and LLM-assisted workflows for news, research, and structured data.

This Senior ML Engineer role focuses on production models for entity linking, sentiment, and GenAI features with strict latency and compliance requirements.

Hybrid London (3/2): collaborate with journalists, quants, and product engineers on eval harnesses before any customer-facing rollout.

What you will do

• Ship NLP and LLM features on market-moving text with offline evals and human-in-the-loop review.
• Improve retrieval and summarisation quality for multi-lingual financial documents.
• Partner with legal and compliance on data handling, retention, and model governance.
• Instrument latency, cost, and quality dashboards for every production model version.

Stack & environment

• Python, PyTorch, LangChain-style orchestration, Kubernetes inference.
• Large-scale text pipelines, feature stores, and A/B experimentation.
• Hybrid: London EC4N office + remote deep-work days.

What we look for

• 5+ years shipping ML/NLP in production—not research-only profiles.
• Experience in regulated or high-stakes domains (finance, health, legal).
• Clear writing for RFCs, model cards, and incident postmortems.
