Instacart is hiring a Senior Senior Applied Scientist — marketplace ML on the Marketplace science team (Hybrid · San Francisco, United States). This is a hands-on role in applied machine learning—not a generic “AI enthusiast” post.
You will own modeling, evaluation, and production ML delivery end to end: problem framing, offline evaluation, safe rollout, and iteration from production signals. Success is measured with clear metrics (quality, latency, cost, or business KPIs)—not slide decks alone.
Instacart connects retailers, shoppers, and consumers. Applied Scientists work on pricing, availability, batching, and personalisation across the marketplace.
Senior Applied Scientist (SF): causal inference, forecasting, and ML for operational efficiency with direct P&L impact.

What you will do
- Design experiments for pricing, ETA, and substitution models.
- Build forecasting pipelines for demand spikes and seasonal events.
- Partner with engineering on real-time feature stores and deployment.
- Communicate trade-offs to ops and business leaders with clear metrics.
